We had an earthquake at 5:30 am this morning.
In my mid-sleep I heard the mirror shaking on our dresser because I hang my necklaces off the corners and I felt the bed shaking.
My mind thought, "Oh, it's an earthquake" and tried to go back to sleep.
That is what I would do in CA growing up. My internal gauge was telling me that it wasn't a big one so I didn't need to react.
But then I sat up in bed and remembered that I wasn't in CA but in OH and on the 2nd floor of a building so I shot up out of bed and ran for the door of my bedroom as to instinctively go outside to safety.
By the time I made it to the bedroom door the shaking was over.
I turned on the news and there was no word of an earthquake.
There wasn't anything until about 6:15 when the news people had started to get phone calls from people.
The epicenter was on the border of IN/IL, southeast corner. A 5.4.
Not a big earthquake for SF standards but a decent one. On the news they said that because of how flat everything is here we were able to feel it here in OH.
They said that buildings were swaying in Chicago and Indy. I could see that how they have not been built to withstand an earthquake.
Good thing Tom wasn't home. He probably would have slept through it and I would have given him a heart attack.
