We are on our way...

Well, as of today it is two days and counting.  Marisol's first communion is finally here.  After months of planning and sewing a dress it has come.  I just posted the dress and the veil.  This past Tuesday we went to my hair dresser for a hair consultation.  Marisol's hair is baby-fine so I knew there was no way I could fix it in a way that the headpiece and veil would hold.  You can see the pics of which hair style we decided to go with. 

We officially have 50 people joining us for the celebration.  The church service is at 1pm but Marisol has to be there about 30-45 minutes early.  The service should be over about 2:30.  Marisol is happy to no longer have to sit in the pew while the rest of the family gets up to receive communion.  Now she will be able to join us after Saturday. 

The party is scheduled to start at 3:30pm.  I am very fortunate to have some very good friends helping me out.  We had decided to invite people only to the party and not to the church service.  When Dominic had his first communion it was SO crowded.  Tom sat with Dominic but all other family members and such had to fend for themselves.  So I got there an hour early and we still sat in one of the last pews and didn't see a thing.  So we decided to make the invitation as a reception only invitation. 

We are serving pulled pork bbq with all of the typical sides.  Her cake is all white except for tiny purple flowers on top.  It is two-tiered with a cake topper.  The cake topper is porcelain.  It is of a little first communion girl kneeling in prayer with an angel standing next to her.  Everything is purple.  It was either pink or purple so I went with purple because I rather have everthing look 'Barney' than like pepto.

My dear friends are arriving a half hour early as to set everything up since I will be at the church.  Tom and I will drive separately so he and Dominic can leave as soon as the service is over and I can stay behind with Marisol who will be having pictures.

We also have a dance floor with a DJ.  Off to one side of the dance floor there is a TV with dvd.  I made one of those "This is my Life" DVDs.  All 8 years of her life.   I asked Marisol what she wanted the background music to be and she said either Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood.  So I decided on Carrie Underwood's latest song "All-American Girl", which suited the DVD well.  If any of you would like a copy I would be happy to burn one and send it to you.

The DJ will announce her arrival and introduce her, also we will have a cake cutting.  That is about it.  Otherwise we'll just be eating and dancing.  She has a handful of friends coming so it should be a great time for her.

I still remember my first communion and what a special day it was for me.  I really hope I can do the same for her.

You all need to keep me in your thoughts on Saturday afternoon as we will have an interesting combo of people at this party.  My family and friends. my husband's family and friends plus my ex-husband's family and friends.  One of the main reasons why we decided not to have ANY alcohol at the function.  Good thing I am so anal, eh?
